ummmmm, interesting; when you touched it did it have a dark coloured spore mass?
It has a look of an older Fuligo septica, a slime mould, about it, but I can't be certain.
You have sure found some interesting ones that I can't help with this time, sorry.

I actually didn't touch it, but it looked solid and rubbery. Pretty sure it isn't a slime mould.

Then its going to be a polypore but I do not recognise it sorry

I couldn't find anything the same in any of my books.

I suspect it's one of the Corticiod fungi. Heino Lepp is the one who could help you with this one. Any chance of any images of spores. What an intersting species.

Hi Pam, You're back on deck are you? Fiona at ALBC was just commenting that you'd been impossible to contact and the unidentified fungi were building up. A little welcome back gift for you! How would I go about getting spores off this thing? Can't just rip off a cap and put it on a sheet of paper. I could try and interest Heino in having a whip through the ALCW and ALBC records. He did a CNM fungus ID for me recently.

Yes, finally back. So sorry I've been out of touch for so long. A couple of ways I would try and obtain spores. Firstly; if you remove a section and place it face down on paper or a glass slide and cover as you would normally proceed for a spore print. Sometimes with these, if they're moist, a fine piece of material such as a couple of tooth picks may help keep it just off the surface though not always necessary. Secondly; take a fine scraping off the surface of a mature section and place on a slide. Thirdly; take a thin section place on a slide and look under the microscope. Heino would most probably be better to advise you.

Hmm, only have a binocular microscope with 20 or 40X magnification, which probably isn't going to be adequate for spores. But is the colour of a spore print any use? I could try that if I can find the thing again. I actually don't normally do spore prints, but I guess I can have a crack at it.

Spore colour is very important. So good luck!

Looks like one of the Corticioid fungi. That belong in the family Meruliaceae.
