I first came across this genus at Middle Beach, Merimbula but it appears to be fairly common along the coast

I think it might be Coscinasterias because the spines look more prominent than on photos of Allostichaster.

Great sighting. Rare on this coast and even rarer to find a whole shell. I have now added this new species to our list. Thanks for the record.

I deleted the earlier comment after a more careful look. It still looks like the P spinifera in Edgar p 436 and they have been photographed at P...
