Hi Ross, Odd looking thing. I gather it was coming up out of pure sand around the edge of Bondi Lake?

Yes, it was. There were quite a few there.

Hi again Ross, I just saw something very similar growing out of a sandy track surface down at Timbillica. I put it on iNaturalist and got an ID to genus from Tom May, who is a big name in fungi, so I imagine he is right: Thelephora species. It hardly seems worth adding that genus to the fungi list in ALCW when we are all about to move to iNat. Once you make the transition to iNat you can also elect to add your sightings to other projects, such as Fungimap, which might speed up fungal IDs. Your sightings will go into the ALCW project automatically once you join it, but can go into as many others as you like too.

I already have my sightings transferred to iNaturalist. Posted to ALCW to see if it was still active before catching up on iNaturalist posting. Will look for other projects attached to iNaturalist.

Hi Ross, Yeah, sort of active but not a lot of confirming going on as people drift away I think. The other good project is the bushfire recovery in NSW one, if you want to have a look for it and join it. It makes the process of putting an observation up a bit slower if you add it to more projects, but presumably increases the benefit, and might get you onto the radar of more potential experts to confirm the ID. Or that's the theory I am currently working on anyway.
