It was a warm, sunny autumn day. This species was numerous and (in my experience) uncharacteristically active on the dam. Many males were whizzing about over the water engaging in occasional brief right of way disputes... Photo 1 shows egg laying activity.... Photo 4 shows two things of interest: ... (1) The red and blue damsel scales at about 1.2 times larger than the Common Bluetail perched close by.... (2) Though sanguine about it's perched neighbour, the red and blue damsel was engaging in a wing shuffling behaviour (without flying off) as a response to the overflying damsel (top right). I observed this on several occasions and thought it most likely a deterrence against predation.
