I believe this cockroach is in the genus Ellipsidion, based on descriptions in David Rentz' field guide and on CSIRO image (link below). Most Balta are nocturnal and live in leaf litter. In contrast, Ellipsidion are diurnal and are often seen resting on leaves or flowers, sunning themselves (all according to David Rentz). http://www.scienceimage.csiro.au/tag/insects/i/191/ellipsidion-cockroach-order-blattodea/
Hi KerriLee, Yep, the CSIRO image looks convincing. I see you have found the unidentified pages, which is good news. I tried to clear a bit of the backlog with the insect field guides Max and I have, but there were still a lot I didn't feel confident of. The next trick for you is to put the image up in the ID pages once you have confirmed it. I've been following along behind you doing it, but if you could get onto it yourself that'd be good. Click on species in the top toolbar, then the group you have just ID'd a member of, then that species, then define images and you can drag and drop the ID'd image in. It is helpful to have those blanks filled with images if people are scanning thru looking for what their photo might be of.
