Author's notes

This is another odd distribution quirk for forest red gum, which typically occurs on granite-derived soils or alluvium. Here it is on shallow rocky soils over rhyolite, along the Kangarutha Track. I'd just finished explaining to my companion that all these smooth-barked trees must be E. cypellocarpa when we found some fallen green fruits and realised that with their domed shape, they had to be tereticornis. It is also present at the north end of the Kangarutha Track just south of Kianinny, and around Wallagoot Lake, so being half way between those two points as well is not so unlikely.
