It's an Elapid snake but I can't see the head, which would help identify the species.
Do you have any other photos?
If anyone can see the head please point it out.

Dear Patrick, I am sorry that this image is the best I was able to take as the snake slid away with its head under the leaf litter. I still thought it was worth making a record of it.

No worries. Thanks Libby. My best educated guess is a Drysdalia and most likely Drysdalia rhodogaster but possibly Drysdalia coronoides, however without a head shot it's hard to tell. Do you happen to recall if it had a pale, yellow collar or pale facial lip stripes?

I didn't get a view of any distinguishing features but it did look like other Mustard bellied snakes I have seen.

Thanks Libby. We'll pencil it in as the most likely contender but can't confirm it.
