The association of this fly with a fungus and its overall morphology enable me to positively identify it as a Tapeigaster sp. It is interesting that you sighted this in April - the same time as I have seen these flies on our property. Apparently they time their life cycle so that their mating coincides with the Autumn growth of fungi. Their larvae feed on the fungus.
