Author's notes

We must have seen over 30 Turban Shells upside down with their oppercula visible like these. They weren't moving so presumed dead, but nothing to indicate why, although they were mostly a way from rocks on the sand?

Definitely Turbo sp. I can't tell whether T. subninella or N. torquatus from this angle. Queer how they are in this position. I wonder if human interference?

I don't think people had anything to do with it, we didn't see anybody else about. They were over about 800sq m area and only Turbo shells. Weird.

If the operculum has a raised ridges in a spiral pattern then I think it is N/T torquatus -- I can't tell from the photo
