Orchid Diuris monticola 3 Oct 2016 JackieMiles1K

Author's notes

Looks very like Diuris monticola to me, but in an unlikely spot close to sea level and on a dry cutting next to the Princes Hwy (more typically a species of higher elevation wet grassy areas I think?).

Both these species used to be included in Diuris lanceolata, which is now considered to only occur in Tas.

Yep, but I have seen chryseopsis flowering in August, so I think this plant is a bit too late flowering to be it. Interestingly I just found a single plant of the same thing on my place yesterday in not particularly moist themeda grassland, for only the second time in 30-odd years. I presume the wet winter has caused the odd one to pop up from seed in spots where it is unlikely to persist. I should have added with the sighting that the Eden area plant had 5 leaves & 2 flowers.
