The crane flies are such a huge group, and this such a large genus, that I'd normally go with just the genus level. However, this is certainly a good match for many of the ALA identifications of L.clavatus - so I reckon we can call it. Max has an earlier sighting of an apparently identical insect which I'll also now tag as this species (rather than the genus only). Kim will let us know if we need to pull back to genus level :)

Thanks, Max's sighting was at the same location and a similar time last year

Yes, I noticed that. The predictable timing of insect emergence is one of the things that I find fascinating about them. There are many insects we see that - when we check our records - reappear annually, briefly, and almost to the day!
