Author's notes

Unfortunately feral deer seem to like stropping their horns on P. linearis and have damaged many and ring barked a few on our place. We have taken to putting chicken wire guards to above horn height around vulnerable shrubs. As deer numbers increase this preference could conceivably lead to local extinctions of this charismatic native species.

I suppose it has to be with that bark but the length:width ratio of the leaves is much larger than usual and the width appears to be more than the maximum of 6 mm described in Plantnet and Vicflora.

Hi Betty, The flowers are tiny, so that might be giving a misleading impression of the leaf size. I think it is pretty variable in leaf size anyway. We have some really large plants on our place, one of them the size of a small tree.

Hi Betty - I've added a few photos to give you a better look at the P. linearis leaves. They typically fall into the
2-8cm x 2-3mm range (Costermans), but around the flowers are more likely to be at the short broad end. (photos 1 and 5)
