Large numbers roosting together atop rush seed head (Juncus sp.). These shots were taken mid afternoon, and the bees are returning, jostling and preening. This is a regular sight here during the Summer months. The bees have been returning to this same spot for a week now, gradually flying off each morning - although there are not many hours of the day when there are NO bees resting there. By all accounts, these are males. The reason that they group like this is unclear.
