Hi Kim, I had a look at Meloidae in "Beetles of Australia" by George Hangay and Paul Zborowski. They have a photo (pg 184) of "A flower visiting species of the genus Zonitis" which looks a good match. They say that "more than likely it is a pollen and nectar eater, and is quite common around Sydney."

Yes that looks like the same species. But Federica Turco, a CSIRO taxonomist has told me that the genus Zonitis doesn't really occur in Australia, and that the species referred to it should go in other genera. She's working on the group now.
