Author's notes

Hi Betty, This is what I think of as typical L. lanigerum (to compare with the grandifolium record on CNM from the Murrumbidgee R). It has variably hairy upper leaves, often quite silvery, though on this plant you had to look sideways at the upper leaf surface to see the hairs at all. Unfortunately I didn't think to get a shot of the bark - duh. But it's on the to-do list for next time I'm on a river.
