Leptospermum obovatum retains its seed cases. Leptospermum emarginatum does not. Jackie would have a better idea than I of what it is.

Yeah, I'd go with emarginatum. It is the one most likely to occur in smaller coastal creeks within forest. Lep obovatum is more on the bigger rivers in more open country eg Bemboka River, Bega River.
