It was lucky it didn't get run over by the police car parked next to it in the service station. It was quite docile, I had to poke it to get it to move off the concrete ( early morning, probably cold). Interesting that this is habit of taking odd photos of things leads to this discovery!!

Yes, I know having to keep the grass down behind the houses the slasher carefully mowed round two large clumps but mowed over the last Styphelia triflora left on Farrer Ridge Then carefully went round the Blackberries and Periwinkle.

This locust would have arrived by a night flight from an area between northern NSW and central QLD a few days ago. Others may have migrated with it so keep a look out. Not easy to approach and photograph. Morphometrically appears to be in the transient rather solitary phase (flat pronotum carina) suggesting it comes from a hopper band or swarm. For more info please contact me.
First record on CNM. Last recorded by me in 1974? When it actually bred. See my paper for details
